📚 Let's read:
Once upon a time, a peacock lived in a forest beside a lake. He was very proud of his beauty. Every day he used to go to the lake. There he looked at his own reflection in the water.
✨ "Oh! What a beautiful bird am I! My feathers and wings are so beautiful!" ✨ he used to say to himself.
One day, a crane came to live by the lake. The peacock saw the crane. He murmured, "A new visitor is here to stay. I must go and introduce myself to him." So, the peacock walked to the lake. The crane was busy there. He was catching fish for lunch.
📖 The Proud Peacock and the Crane
The proud peacock spread out his colourful feathers for display. Then he said to the crane, “Hello, Mr. Crane! Welcome to the forest. I am your neighbour.”
“Thank you so much, Mr. Peacock,” the crane said.
The peacock then mocked at the crane, “Why do you have such colourless feathers? You look so ordinary!”.
The crane replied, “Yes. I don’t have beautiful feathers and wings like yours. But I can fly across the lake with the help of my wings. Can your feathers help you to fly?” There was no reply from the peacock. He felt ashamed and went away.

Bengali meaning of the text (মূল পাঠের বঙ্গানুবাদ)
কোনো এক সময় হ্রদের ধারে এক জঙ্গলে একটি ময়ূর বাস করত। সে তার রূপের জন্য খুবই গর্বিত ছিল। প্রতিদিন সে হ্রদের দিকে যেত। সেখানে সে জলের মধ্যে নিজের ছায়া দেখত। সে নিজেকে বলত, "ওহ! আমি কী সুন্দর পাখি! আমার পালক এবং পাখাগুলিও কত সুন্দর!"
একদিন একটি সারস হ্রদের ধারে থাকত। এল। ময়ূর সারাসটিকে দেখল। সে বিড়বিড় করে বলল, "এক নতুন আগন্তুক এখানে থাকতে এসেছে। আমি অবশ্যই তার কাছে গিয়ে নিজের পরিচয় দেবো।" তাই ময়ূরটি হাঁটতে হাঁটতে হ্রদের দিকে গেল। সারসটি সেখানে খুব ব্যস্ত ছিল। সে মধ্যাহ্ন ভোজের জন্য মাছ ধরছিল।
অহংকারী ময়ূরটি দেখানোর জন্য তার রঙিন পালক মেলে ধরল। তারপর সে সারসকে বলল, "এই যে সারস মশাই! আপনাকে জঙ্গলে স্বাগত! আমি আপনার প্রতিবেশী।"
"অনেক ধন্যবাদ, ময়ূর মশাই", সারস বলল।
তারপর ময়ূর সারসকে পরিহাস করে বলল, "তোমার পালক এমন বর্ণহীন কেন? তোমাকে খুব সাধারণ দেখায়!"
সারস উত্তর দিল, "হ্যাঁ। আমার তোমার মতো সুন্দর পালক ও ডানা নেই। কিন্তু আমার ডানার সাহায্যে আমি এই হ্রদের চারপাশে উড়ে বেড়াতে পারি। তোমার ডানা কি তোমাকে উড়তে সাহায্য করে?"
ময়ূরের মুখে আর কোনো কথা নেই। সে লজ্জা পেল এবং সেখান থেকে চলে গেল।
