🐭 MOUSE - A COMPUTER DEVICE

The part of a computer used for navigation is called a Mouse.

A mouse is a small device used for pointing and selecting icons on the computer screen. It also helps us to draw pictures and play games on the computer screen. It is connected with the CPU through a long wire that looks like a tail.

Other than the keyboard, we can give commands to the computer by using a mouse.

A mouse typically has three important buttons:

  1. Left Button
  2. Center or Middle Button
  3. Right Button

💡 Underneath some mice, you'll find a ball or a glowing light in the bottom portion that helps it move.

A mouse may also have a small wheel instead of the middle button. This is known as the Scroll Button 👆. A mouse equipped with a scroll button is known as a Scroll Mouse.

A mouse pointer is an arrow that moves in the same direction as the direction of mouse movement.

HOW TO USE THE MOUSE

Pressing buttons on the mouse is called clicking. A mouse can be used by clicking its buttons.

💡 Good to Know A camera produces clicking sound while taking a snap. Similarly, a click sound is heard when a mouse button is pressed. This is called clicking of mouse.

There are two types of clicking:

👆 Single Click

  • A click sound is heard after gentle pressing of the left button on the mouse.
  • Single click is useful for selecting an object or document on the computer screen.

✌️ Double Click

  • Two times clicking of the left button of the mouse is known as double clicking.
  • It helps to open a document or a file stored in the computer.

💡 Good to Know To select an object on a computer screen, we make use of Single Click. To select and open an object, we use Double Click.

🖱️ HOW TO DRAG AND DROP THE MOUSE

The mouse is also used for Dragging and Dropping. To drag the mouse, we keep the left button pressed and move the mouse. Dragging is used to move an object on the screen or to select text on the screen.

📌 Good to Know Dropping means releasing the mouse button.

Follow the steps given below for dragging and dropping the mouse:

  1. Step - 1: Hold the mouse properly.
  2. Step - 2: In order to move (drag) an object, place the mouse pointer on it.
  3. Step - 3: Now press holding the left button and move the mouse pointer in desired direction.
  4. Step - 4: Now release (drop) the mouse button.

This will place the object at a new position.
