What is a phiran?

The western Himalayas are covered with snow and are colder than the eastern Himalayas. The eastern Himalayas are low in height and are not snow-covered, but they receive heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.

The famous hill stations of the Lesser Himalayas are Shimla, Kullu, Manali, Almora, Nainital, Mussoorie and Darjeeling.

The three uses of the Himalayas are:
They stand as a natural barrier separating India from the rest of Asia.
They protect us from the dry cold winds blowing from the north.
They are the source of never ending rivers, which are useful for irrigation and for generating electricity.
