যে word noun ও pronoun-এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, সংখ্যা, পরিমাণ ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Adjective বা বিশেষণ বলে। যেমন blue, green, white, red ইত্যাদি। Adjective হল describing word (বর্ণনামূলক শব্দ)। কারণ noun বা pronoun-এর অর্থের বিস্তৃতি ঘটায় বা বর্ণনা দেয়। যেমন এখানে sky বা আকাশ কেমন? - নীল (blue)।
